Low voltage on a marine engine should not be the norm. If it is, then there are other problems.

Proper batteries, wiring and alternators are essential.

A number of years back I got a call from a local cop who had gotten hit by a car while writing a ticket. He suffered no real damage but sued and got a settlement.
He bought a beater of a 28 Bertram with tired Crusader 270's and lousy wiring.

He went out and bought a couple of the Hirel throttle body systems for them and called me to install them.

I had trouble from the begining setting them up because of low voltage problems. I never could get them running right because he would not up grade his entire electrical system that had been neglected.

Last I heard 4 years later he was still fooling with them and never got the boat running right.
All the money he spent, was in the wrong direction.

It doesn't have to be that way. Most boats it is not.

Electronic ignition is far superior to point ignition.
