I work at Onset Bay Marina and we do a lot of AWLGRIP work including painting towers sailboat mast bowrails etc.
On my own 25B I originaly had the factory hard top which I removed. Now I have sliding rectangular side windows. Took the frames to a very talented welder and reworked the side frames leaving the bottom and forward pieces tact but cutting and welding the top and back pieces making a wedge side piece.
Then off to a sandblaster that can handle small stuff like this. If a sandblaster only does big truck work he's not your guy for something like this. Reason for sandbasting is to absolutly with out question, remove all CORROISION!!!
Then Alumaprep for etching which is washing down with a rag and gloves on. Then Alidine for converstion to accept paint by sealing the aluminum, this is very thin liquid and applied with rag or brush but nothing that takes time or talent.
Then Awlgrip primer and the finish paint. Sounds like alot but its not and the proof is that after 5 years not a chip or bubble!
If your interested, pictures of my 25B LESLINS are on 25Bertram.com in the photo gallery.
In are experience, powder coat looses shine after a few years and reanodizing is not easy to find somebody capible and rarely looks as good as original.
Reardless of what process you choose you MUST remove corrosion first!!Keep Smilin
