I just cleaned my rub rail with muriatic acid and it worked well. Really cleaned out the pits. I suggest you check out the POR15 website. I'm using it on some industrial equipment on recommendation of others and it really seems to be tough. You brush it on and it smooths right out. Then you hit it with their acid etch primer and use their two part topcoat for UV resistance. Rawleigh
