I would get them powder coated or even better, I would have them re-anodized.

You will likely need to have them bead blasted prior to either operation.

Paint will peel, and peel fast.

The other option is to have them professionally etched and awlgripped. Scott Traenkle in Marion, MA did that, and it looks amazing.
