When doing the starb side I took the outboard engine cover panel off. Very easy to take off in my boat, this makes getting in and out much easier.
I also removed the motor mount on the starb side before I started the job.
I couldn't get the hoses off the coolor on the water pump side, so I opted to break the hose from the water pump instead. The water pump hose was so tight that the neck cracked when I was taking it off.
Bottom line is that if the engines are 10 years or older I would buy a length of 1-1/4" hose before you get started. That way you can cut the old hose off if neccessry.
