Avoid petroleum products with the rubber cutless bearings as they will swell up and cause problems. If you need a lube try liquid soap, if you feel you must use grease carefull not to get on rubber.

Another alternative besides what was said, and a portable bearing press ( recommended ) is to use a sawzall and carefully cut a wedge out of the cutless bearing sleeve with the shaft removed, then it just taps out. If your not good with a sawzall skip this idea as you don't want to go into the strut.
