Deck Question

As my new Bertram cockpit deck was fitted last night there is a big gap on port and starboard sides under the gunnel and a smaller gap aft. What would be the simple way to fill that in as it will be concealed for fishing stuff storage etc. I have fiberglass panels with 4 access sliding doors for storage on the sides under the gunnel. (I'm redoing them as well with new gelcoat then paint.)The major concern there is keeping water from entering downward through the deck but to force it aft through natural gravity then out the scuppers.
Though about foam then thought about using left overs from my new Nidacore panels to fill in. I'm not a glassman and I've hired guys for this job. What are the thoughts of those who have been there? Thanks in advance to the Faithful. Dave K
