In Response To: Parts/supplies help? (JohnD)

Hightide marine sells bearings for the rudder shafts. Unfortunately I found their pricing to be off the charts.

I could re-design theirs from scatch and have them made at local shop for about what it cost to buy them from them. Including Engineering time. $350 a piece. Being a Mechanical Engineer I have a tough time getting raked over the coals for incidentals like these.

Because my old rudders bushing were very simple and seemed to work fine, I decided to refine the less expensive approach.

I used 4"x4" 316 SS plate, and placed a bronze shoulder bushing in the center. I used standard industrial grade SS split collars to support the tudder. This cost me less then $50 dollars for 2 assemblies and seems to work just fine.

Here is a picture.
