First of all, I assume you have preadjusted lines that stay at the dock. After I back into the slip, I like to cleat the fore and aft spring lines first to keep the boat in place. Then the stern and bow lines on the windward side (if there is wind). Finally, the stern and bow lines on the leeward side. I hang each line at the dock on a large hook (threaded kind to hang bicycles from the ceiling) and grab them with the boat hook. I also have bumper strips on critical pilings for when the boat doesn't act right. (Never my fault) No matter how many times you do it, a time will come when the boat gets all crossed up in the slip. Keeps it interesting.
