b26 both engines cut out

It's not a 31 but maybe someone can help. I have a 1983 26 straight inboard with crusader v6s. Today was the first day out, and after about 30 minutes cruise both engines quit at the exact same time. They restarted a couple of times, then nothing. After troubleshooting the fuel system, I noticed that the motors would only start and stay running with the battery parallel switch held in the up position. As soon as I let go of the switch the engines shut down. Any Ideas? Thanks, Kevin
