My father has always been very particular when it came to cars, trucks and of course, his boat. I'm 35 now and only in the last 5 years did I even ask seriously if I could use his boat. Now I have a boat bigger then his and I'm having trouble convincing him that it's OK for him to take mine out if I'm out of town.

I took it upon myself to have my own boat to care for and kind of indirectly proved to my pop that I could handle the responsiblity when I was younger. I always tried to return his boat in better condition then I received it. Accidents do happen and you know Murphy's law.

I agree with all the previous posts. You most likely already know in your heart if you trust him with that responsibility. I would worry about the friends he has with him. Will they respect him and do what he needs them to do if something should go wrong? Will he take responsibility for their actions?
