Ice box conversion to refrig.

I was talking to a 31 fb bert owner that had the old ice box in it but it was converted to a 110 refrig using the old ice box.?????? He bought and sold boat that way. Name of boat was Francine out of LI. Has anyone heard of this being done.? Sounds alot easier than cutting out the ice box and installing a 110 refig. Any info is appreciated. BOB
