In Response To: Caulking going soft in the sun? (Dug)

Dug,

5200 does indeed have very little ability to withstand UV exposure. It will yellow out, can soften, & can chalk out under direct sunlight.

5200 is designed as a high strength bonding adhesive, not as a caulk. Only your top joint will give you cosmetic problems down the line & that will be a relatively easy fix when it becomes necessary to address.

With a little care you can remove the surface layer with Debond 2000 & a "church key". Then re-caulk with a paintable silicon/latex caulk. Don't worry about it for now...

Br,

Patrick
