Ken,

I'm glad that Furuno was helpful. Now on the connector. Buy the same one you have in silver plated. Do not go to Radio Shack but to a marine store and buy a silver plated one ,PL-259 is the nomenclature. Now when you assemble it the center conductor of the coax should be pretinned with solder first then inserted into the center pin of the connector and soldered. It helps if you use liquid rosin first but you do not have to . It just makes it easier. I prefer to use a silver bearing solder for everything on a boat.Particularily RF. You can buy a low grade silver bearing solder at Radio Shack and most electronic stores where they sell parts. Not too many of them anymore around. Now on the shield same thing pre tin it first with solder , after you either fanned it back(only when using the larger diameter RG-8 type cable) if using the standard RG-58 cable ,about 1/4" dia. then twist the shield into a pigtail then pre tin and insert into one of the holes for the ground portion of the Pl-259 connector.Again it's best to pretin the connector first where you are going to solder the shield. After it cools check your work with an ohm meter to make sure it is not shorted. If it is shorted start all over again. Now that should give you enough information.
I have to run to a funeral now as onbe of my good fishing friends has to bury his wife only 64. His new SUV rolled over on his way to a time share last week. She didn't make it.
