Best Way to Repair Holes in Fiberglass?

Hello All,

What is the best way to repair holes in fiberglass? I just finished installing a new hardtop and outriggers and I have a number of holes in the topsides of my boat that I'd like to repair. I am looking for advice on the best way to repair them. The maximum size hole is no bigger than 1/4 inch to 5/16 inch. Do I use epoxy with filler (what type?) or is polyester resin with filler OK? Are any of the body putties OK? How much of the area should I grind, how deep, etc? Do I need to use fiberglass matting or will only epoxy/polyester putty hold up?

Thanks in advance for the help!
