Jimmy,
The amps you are stating are the run amps once the compressor starts.

Whats happening is the start amps are higher on the new unit and the gen set bogs down under the load.
This is a much more important number.

As UV said I would install what they call a hard start kit. Its a bigger start capacitor and can sometimes over come the problem if you are on the edge.

It should be no problem since I installed a 10 on Buddy Boy and had no problem with the 2.2 on startup.

Is the compressor a rotary or recip?
