Gen set/AC problem-Bruce

I just replaced my old A/C unit (6500 BTU 6.5 amps) with a new one from the same company (9000 BTU 6.7 amps)The company said since my 2500 Mase was running the old unit the .2 amps would not make a difference ...NOT the compressor wont run the fan runs but every few second the compressor try's to kick in and fails it works fine on shore power. Am I totally screwed or can anything be done to the Gen set or AC unit to make it work?
