Port engine mystery

As I indicated about a week ago, my newly rebuilt Injector pump shut down my port engine 300 yards from our inlet. I re-removed the injector pump and had it again redone. On re-installation I replaced the stop solenoid, 6 injectors and the lift pump (figured it was a good idea). Because the injector guy suspected contaminated fuel, I removed the Racor, took it apart, cleaned the internal ball and washer, and reassembled it. Throughout each stage, the engine runs fine, then loses its prime if left to rest. The diagnosis seems to be an air leak somewhere. Today, since I noticed a small crack in the Racor bowl, I thought I found the culprit, so I removed the Racor again and replaced the bowl. I started it up, it idled perfectly, and thought I had finally solved the problem. As I was cleaning up, the engine ran smoothly at 750 rpm. After about 15 minutes, the idle suddenly jumped up to 850 rpm. After a few gunnings of the engine, I could not get it to drop back to 750 rpms. I shut it down and it immediately lost it's prime on startup. I closed my fuel line, opened the Racor and saw it was down about a third. Refilled, pumped from the lift pump (which had pressure for about 3-4 strokes, then none) and got it started again. This procedure was repeated 3-4 times. Every time I thought I had it licked, the idle would jump 100 rpms. The only thing in the chain that remains a possible suspect is the brand new lift pump (which I didn't need). It was the culprit on startup problems after overnight sitting on my Starboard engine last year. Would an air leakage there cause an idle increase after 15-20 minutes? Any thoughts? It's driving me nuts.
