Kevin:
Checking the filter is most important as noted. Make sure you know how to operate it. Is it a heat pump (heating available)?
Treat it like a window unit. Always wait at least two minutes before trying to reset it. If you try too quicky you can pop a breaker or damage the unit.
You may want to run the fan only first to make sure it works, then go to the thermostat (Cold control).
Place the fan on low and back off on the thermostat. Then slowly turn the thermostat knob.
Once you hear the compress come on leave it alone for awhile. If it runs and cools you are golden.
Don't forget you'll only get about a 20 degree difference between cabin temp and discharge from the unit.
Happy boating.
