Air conditioning question

My new old 28 is almost ready for the water. I have never actually used this boat yet, except fot the sea trial. What, if anything needs to be done prior to using the air conditioner? It is a marine air 12,000 btu unit. The raw water pump is mounted to the foreward bulkhead. Does it need to be primed or once it is in the water and on shore power just flip the switch? I am sure come splash time I will post some more questions. thanks in advance. Kevin
