Don't know the professional answer to your question but we just went thru the same thing as well as removing 28 years worth of previous two owners adding wires over the years for different electrical needs and I did notice that the regular copper house wires we tore out were extremely tarnished and hard. Wen't back with tinned copper on everything with the exception of heavy 3 wire cable from shore power connection to ac panel, could not locate wire size in tinned type, however used all heat shrink connectors wtih penetrox on wire ends and CX on terminal connections.
