Steve,
I'm just out of Nabbs creek off the Patapsco River, not far from you.

You've got to try tidalfish.com, I put the link below. Great bunch of guys and you can always catch up on the latest. Many of them favor the style you mention & have found great success jigging with bass-assans on plain jig heads.

As for up our way, there's perch and crockers on the flatter bottoms and if you can find an area where oyster shells had been dumped that's excellent. Swan point, just south of Rock Hall & Love Point, north end of KI (Mack mentioned). are good chum areas.

While a good many will switch from troll to chum, I know plenty who troll all summer. The brewerton channel in the patapsco produces for me, but just about anywhere there's a good drop off from 20-40 feet is good when it's a little warmer.

For perching I like the 'fish finder' rigs, basically a pice of plactic rigged between a swivel or knot and a circle hook, to which a weight attaches. The idea is the perch can pick the bait without the initial resistance of the weight, give em time to eat it. I've had great luck drifting off the mouth of the Magothy this way (theres a big area where oyster shells had been dumpped for years and that's where they are).

Also, any local knowledge you can get is good. Like any of the local Mom & Pop type tackle stores. I go to Warren's Bait box down on 648 in Geln Burnie and JR's in Riviera Beach (ft smallwood rd). They're usually happy share what's happening, because you can't always get that at the super-stores.

I don't get to go as often, but the Pasadena Sportfish Group (PSG) is free and meets once a month you can check them out at www.heyfish.com, they also hold a flea market in Feb each year & is always a good place to stock up.

I've noticed the past couple of years, our creek has really cleaned up and a couple of weeks ago, my kids started catching some small perch from the shore with mickey mouse rods and worms they dug up. So that's a really good sign.

Tight lines,
John D
