Jeff - CX was developed for the aviation industry to protect aluminum airframes from corrosion. The secret to the stuff is its incredible penetrating ability plus a high tech lube. It is 'creepy'. Like penetrating oil on steroids.
Use the regular (red can) on anything electrical. Plugs, breaker panels, fuses, switches, electronics. Great for any metal surface - aluminum, stainless, chrome. The heavy duty formula, in the green can (or is it blue?) on tough areas like cast iron rudder flange bearings, you steering gear, shaft couplings, motor mounts.
The red is superior for fishing reels, guns, roller guides on rods. It will not hurt anything, so you can use it anywhere. I keep my Penn 80-W's doused with it and for 5 years have not had to service them, period. I take one of the 7 down every year just to look and remain amazed how the stuff not only protects the metal, but lubricates way better than anything else.
Another magic potion you should always have on hand is Ultra Tef Gel, a grease-like paste that will prevent galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals, such as a stainless screw in aluminum.
