Copper lines are, to the best of my knowledge, not mandated by the Coast Guard. They are not even recommended, only accepted. A metal fuel line is required from the fuel pump to the carburator or injection system on an inboard engine. Most of these are steel.
Last year I replaced all of the fuel lines in Chaser with Airequip type A1 hose and used compression fittings at each connection. This is the only type of fuel line I would consider. Type A1 has a stailess steel wire mesh in the middle of its structure which makes it really tough and suitable for a gas inboard applications. It is expensive, but really worth the peace of mind.
