Mack,
Never trust someone else to check your fluids, even mechanics as you stated.
No damage should of occured under those circumstances.

Just ask my daughter after getting her oil changed, the engine was making noise when she got home. I popped the hood and it was 2.5 quarts low on oil.
The oil change place wanted to flush the engine claiming it had sludge, which it didn't and my daughter called me to ask. I said no and I think the oil change guy got mad and left the oil low on purpose hopeing to do damage to the engine.

I'll find out today when I go visit the little prick.
