I have an aluminum pipe [each side] that goes from the gunnel to right under the house overhang. On each one I have a rod holder with a step between the holder and the pipe. These two pipe supports take some of the "sway " out of the flying bridge, support the rear portion of the half tower which the top of the pipe lines up with, and serves as the step from the engine box to the fly bridge. In this set up the engine box can be raised fully without interference and thats with a rod in the holder. The rod holder keeps ones foot from slipping off the step. Maybe something of this nature would be useful, adapted to your tower/setup.
