If you get a chance, talk to Scott or someone else at Airmar Tech support. 603.673.9570.

I'll be the first to admit that I could be way underestimating the tilted element transducer.

I'm using the smartsensor via NEMA for speed, temp and accurate shallow depths. My 256 is used for bottom picture and depth in deeper waters. Airmar first told me to use the tilted element, then realized I already had a 200KHz 256 transducer. At that point, the smartsensor with a 45% beam became the best of all worlds. Maybe the big difference is I have a 1KW Furuno BBFF1?

Let me know what Airmar tells you, since they make the transducer's I'd take their word over Furuno. BTW, I talked to John Stevens at Furuno (MD) and Walter at Consumer Marine (NJ)
