Hal, welcome aboard. Those of us that frequent this snad box consider the Bertram 31 The Best Boat Ever Built. And for a reason. Most of us agree that there were 1860 Bertram 31's built between the first in 1961 and the last production run in 1983, then there were the famous 23 Silver Anniversary models built and sold in 1986, and that was the end.
The only signifigant differences in them between the early ones and the end of prodictuon was the fuel tanks, which prior to 1972 were 170 gals. and 1972 and after, a much larger 222.
There were five models of the boat made, all on the same hull. The Fly Bridge Cruiser was the most built, then maybe the Fly Bridge Sport fisherman, then some of the Express, the Moppie, and so on.
There is simply no fault in these boats that requires worry. No signifigant hull blisters, no rot (since there is no wood in them that does anything but hold the decks up.
All your questions get a "no, not to worry" responce from those who know them. Become a Steward of the Best Boat Ever Built, and we will all help you thru the process of restoring her to her glory.
