David,
Welcome Aboard!
I've made the crossing between Destin, FL & Palm Beach several times on a B50. I presume you're still running the DD892s. Run from Mobile to Destin, top off your tank, stay over night and have a good meal.
The next morning, leave and cut a straight line for Venice, FL. It'll be a full day.
From Venice, FL, run south, well off shore to the sea bouy at Boca Grande, west down the channel and tie in with the ICW in Pine Island Sound.
Run past Ft. Meyers to the Ochechobee Waterway. You can elect to overnight at Roland Martin's in Clewiston, (west side of the lake), but if you proceed on across the lake, you won't have much stop options until you near Stuart. We generally ran the Venice to Palm Beach leg as a single long day.
Another way is to run from Venice to Marathon in the Keys, then up the coast to Miami , Ft. Lauderdale, or Palm Beach. The Venice to Palm Beach way is longer miles, but about the same time since you're at cruise speed most of the way. Can be a bit breath taking coming in through the flats west of Marathon...
If you need more details on either of these routes, I can put you into contact with Capt Dennis Barrett of Destin, FL. He's made the Destin - Palm Beach round trip probably 8 to 10 times and as recently as a couple of months ago. You might even be able to hook up with him on your Destin stop. Dennis used to run Gary's B50 before they got the new 64' G&S Custom.
Best regards,
Patrick
