salon bulkhead

i have a 1971 31 bert fb sf,redoing inside,and there is a piece of aluminum angle that runs along the top of cabin from one side to other,i relize that it;s for support an all but .can i do away with the aluminum and just glass the bulkhead in?? back bulkhead is only (1/2''thick ).that is kinda of making me wonder if i can or not,,don't wann haver to rebuild tha whole back bulkhead,,,,just do away with aluminum,,,
