LED tachs are really tough to see in direct sunlight. LCD displays show up better.

As a dealer for Aetna, I have replaced many LED tachs on the bridge with LCD displays.
The only draw back to LCD displays in direct sunlight is they can turn black. This can be solved by tilting the display using a bezel from a company like Gafrig.

FloScan used to do an LED display many years ago but changed all the displays to LCD for better viewing after getting constant complaints from bridge installations.

The led instrument displays are not as intense as say an led accent lite that you now see on the market. Most are also segmented diplays to produce the numerical values.

The red LED displays are much better during night vision though.
Floscan backlites their LCD display for night display using a yellowish/orange lite. Very easy on the eyes.

Digital tachs are okay if run direct off a mag pickup.
But run them off a syncronizer that is driven by cables and they jump all over the place due to cable wip.
