I had tempered glass which broke into a million pieces when it broke. Actually, over 30 years, I broke one in a rough sea, and strangely, 2 sitting at the dock. Seems if the frame screws back out over time and apply pressure to the glass edges, it can cause the glass to shatter, The good news is the pieces are like glass pebbles. no sharp shards, but you'll find them for the next two years. My last replacement was similarly colored Lexan or Plexi that I could pop in without going through the whole frame thing, and I can't tell the difference as of one season. Walter
