Faithful,
This past Sunday, Reel Marauder, my restored 1977 B26 went splash for the first time under my stewardship. The winds were gusting enough to produce 2-4 foot waves on the the Rappahanock river and small craft advisories for the bay, but what the heck, I've heard that's Bertram weather.
I only had her out for about an hour and staying close to the marina. Checking all systems and looking for any signs of leaks. Coming out of the channel, I took the new rotary engines for a stretch. Now, I know a head sea is not the best way to see what a new boat will do, and I kept it under 1/2 throttle to find a comfortable cruise in that mess. Anything from 9 to 20 knots was comfortable, with no spray on the fly bridge.
Turning about with a following sea and the winds behind me, I opened it up to 3/4 throttle (4500RPM, pins are at 6500) and skipped across waves at 29.7 knots. Still too rough to get any good data to work with, I think I'm proped to high, but that is another post.
Lots of cleaning left to do, as well as a short list gremlins (all self inflicted I'm sure).
Thanks for all your help, I'm hooked on Bertrams!
