Ok, here's the news on my B26 Open Sport Convertible. The transom is totally wet (The moisture meter popped 100%). It was even wet on the hull bottom.
I was told that there is no rot and that I can splash the boat for the season and have the transon redone in the fall.
They transom will be redone from the inside so all electrical, fuel, steering connections have to be disconnected. The inside of the transom will be cut out and re-done. -- Any specific info for me to inpart here (like use epoxy)?
THE ESTIMATE IS $10,000!!
I live in Connecticut where costs are disproportionately high.
How did the water get in?? Still in question. Scuppers may be the culprit.
BUT- I ran into a problem during the hurricane last year. The boat almost sank in the slip when the automatic bilge failed, the torrential rains filled the boat enough to get the scuppers under water, the salt water started coming in and the cockpit filled to almost half. I was checking on the boat and had to have a power pump brought in to eliminate the water. Though I was lucky and glad I always check on the boat,I bet the inner hull filled then.
I'm being told not to bother drilling drying holes to eliminate as much water as I can until the fall.
I'm having another specialist check it out for a second opinion.
More to come
UGH! I'M SICK! But, I'm committed to getting her back to right.
They say money can't buy happiness but.... My boat gives me happiness and costs money.
