O Mighty B31 Denizens, I invoke your Knowledge! Help is needed to determine outrigger solution for coming offshore season.
Bertram 35 - Converted to Express in early 1990's. Well done conversion, with center console, aluminum top and marlin tower. For point of reference, it resembles a Cabo 35 express.
Former outriggers were Rupp 30' (double spreader). These were gunnel mounted. Created a problem because (width of aluminum top = width of gunnel). Basically, the lower spreader wires would touch against the top when outriggers folded in, preventing them from being stowed vertical. As a result, the spreaders always protruded outboard of the gunnel. This caused problems docking, as the spreader wires would catch on pilings. Other problem - 30' was just too long for the boat - riggers extended about 5' past the transom when stowed.
Seeking a solution for the coming season. On some express boats, I have seen riggers mounted at the forward base of the marlin tower, extending back toward the upper control station. Anyone have experience with this set-up?
Who is "the guy" with regard to outrigger sales and installation?
Cheers!
