Heard this same story with a slightly different twist.

The trooper told the driver he was going off shift soon and didn't want to be bogged down with the extra paperwork. Told him if he had a reason for speeding that he never heard before he'd let the man go. Man gives same answer and the trooper says, "Have a nice day sir!"
