6 years ago whebn I got my first license, I walked into Battery Park office with my papers and a check. Was in and out in 45 minutes, icluding fingerprints and the issue of my first license. Since 9-11, everything is scrutinized more than ever. Last year when I renewed, I unfortunately waited too long and as a reuslt, it took about 10 weeks for my renewal to arrive. I was actually without a license for 6 weeks. Next time I am renewing early and by mail (as they recommend). If you feel it is taking too long just call up the office and ask if there are any problems.....I did this during my renewal process...they put me in touch with the Chief, and they were very helpful in expediting the process( if you want to call it that).
