I've read the bill and while it is vague at times, it does not want the government free service competing with private services that make money from weather reports.
Many radio, tv and printed media pay accuweather everyday for their weather reports and we all know how accurate they are.
They are complaining that with NOAA, people can get the weather information without patronizing ad supported sites or paid services.
Bottom line it boils down to MONEY.My opinion is if they put out good weather information, people would use it. But they don't. The weather channel has become nothing more than advertisements and eye candy. Not something I would want to depend on for accurate weather forcasts that lives at times depend on.
This is nothing more than private business greasing the politicians hand, which from what has been posted, he's up for re election.
WOW, that's a surprise. Hey Accuweather, throw some more money into this guys re election campaign.

I've been an activist for twenty years. Met all kinds of politicians, both large and small. Pushed bills, traveled to Washington and Talahasse(?) at times and shook many a hand and was promised this and that.
The only, and I mean only politicians who never lied to me were Ron Paul, Texas and Zell Miller Ga.We are currently trying to pass a bill here in Florida to teach, get this, American History, not the chopped up version that academia has come up with.
Having a hell of a time finding sponsors.
Ain't that a kick in the ass.Let me put it this way. I would rather have a convicted child molester watch my grand daughter than a politician.
Cut this guy off at the knees and throw him out.
Leave NOAA alone!
