Capt. Dana,

I use GFO packing on my 1 1/2" shafts. 1/4" Now to measure just measure the i.d. of the shaft alleys minus the diameter of your shafts then divide by two= GFO packing diameter. You'll either end up with 5/16" or 1/4" usually.

I use 4 wraps at 90 degress apart butted end to end. Easy to put in and lasts a long time no dripping . Very very small amount of ooz that usually evaporates and no water in the bilge.

I bought a whole box for $50. I think 50 feet, much cheaper that way and it gives you a sense of "Ya ,I goy some more" Dave K
