Security is just an illusion of safety.

I had to go to Governers Island a little while back. Now The Island is Closed to all this time of year so I shouldn't even be allowed on the ferry without being checked out. But I was running late and quickly walked past the guard and got onto the ferry. After waiting awhile and not finding anyone aboard I walk around looking to find out what's up. Went into engine room, pilot house, nobody around period, mind you the engines are running.

So nobody is around and I walk off the ferry and ask the guard why the ferry isn't leaving on time. He quickly asks who I am and tells me to show ID, then he has to call the Island and confirm an appointment. I mention I just got off the boat and he just looks at me. Security.

I go to the Transit Authority, there they don't want ID just my business card??? Yeah can't get those anywhere.

I go to another guard desk and he want to know where I'm going and has to make a call to confirm. He doesn't know the number so I rapid dial on MY Cell and tell him who I'm speaking to and he gets on and asks if I could come in. To bad it was my partner at the office he was speaking to. Yeah security...
