As UV says, they are hollow. Look for water entry on the inside of the boat. Incomplete layup can allow an opening to the hollow strake. In my boat there was an opening to the strake directly under the starboard engine. I drilled a couple of holes in the strake as far forward as possible so the water could drain out. I was able to let mine dry out for seversl months. Then reglass everything, inside and out.
