When I did mine Patrick told me to remove any junk. I had no spacing of any kind under mine . Just paint. You have to do an engine alignment anyway when you remove the struts. Try to get the alignment to less than .004 at all four corners. Basic geometry. Mine are less than .0015 to give you an idea. I'd wait for Patrick's remarks on this one before you do anything.Unlike an auto our boats are all similar but uniquely different.
