Starting in 1972, and thereafter, the glass tnak was increased from 170 to 222 (usuable). The actual capacity is about 232 gal. Look for a paper tag glassed into the top rear of the tank and it will give you the date of manufacture of the tank, the capacity, and results of the pressure test. Mine was covered up with crud and had to clean the area good to find it.
