Well, I've been following this discussion, and time to chime in. For heat, PVC pipe would be fine. I know a certain Professor that uses it to heat his FB. For cold air, it would be a diaster, nothing but condensation and wetness. And how do you plan to attach the heavy, rigid pipe to the a/c plentum? The rugular old flexible insulated ductwork on AJ supplied by Cruiseaire has been there for almost 14 years and looks and works like new. Think I only put some duct tape on a joint or 2 a couple of times. Don't re-invent the wheel.
