The small print on the foil-backed bubble wrap says you need to use strips of the product as a spacer between the duct and the bubble wrap to achieve the claimed R-value (R-4 I think). It also assumes the spacer provides a perfect dead air space, which is hard to achieve in real life. But I'm killing gnats with a sledge hammer again.
