Ti alloys have a modulus of elasticity of 110 GPa.
Steel is 200 GPa, or "stretches"twice as much as Titanium for a given load.
I bet your castings were yeilding due to the non yeilding nature of the fasteners.
I heard there is guy up my way who has titanium flapper valves on the toilet of his flat bottom, blister boat, he needs this because of all the corrosive sh*t that he produces. No worries though, I also heard he can't afford to put in the water, because he spent to much money on his girlfriends house.
