Get certified, then you can dive too.

But I have cleaned my bottom and the bottom of several friend just holding my breath. The again I have also changed my wheels that way. A tank is much easier though. I've even changed my shaft at the dock with a tank. Not really recommended, but was something I wanted to try for years. Yeah... I need a life.

Unless your going to be diving deep and/or often you can buy some used equipment for next to nothing, $250. for a tank / regulator and BC at a local dive shop shouldn't be a problem.
