Raw Water Washdown

I'm thinking of adding a raw water washdown on the thru-hull that is being used for my A/C Cooling water pump. The thru hull is 1" and is 1" hose into the raw water strainer. On the outlet of the strainer, it is reduced down to 1/2" hose to the suction of the cooling water pump. Would it be OK to tie in a 1/2 or 3/4 inch washdown pump after the strainer, in parallel with the A/C cooling water Pump? (y or Tee the 1" strainer outlet into two 1/2" hoses)

If this is OK, IS there a brand of washdown pump that holds up better than the next?
