Interesting to see these products being sold to the public. It's big business, these hemostatic patches. At AVD we sell almost $2 million per year with an average asp of $40 per patch...that's a lot of patches. This Z-Medical got their FDA approval via 510 approval and they don't have any studies showing that bleeding stops quicker by using their product. There is Syvek (from Marine Polymers) that uses a sea shell based polymer to promote "rapid" hemostasis, AVD has Chito-Seal which has a stronger mechanism of action, then all the other medical companies have something too. Vascular Solutions has a pad with thrombin...now that'll stop the bleeding but comes with significant risk. Even 3M has a product but it's just calcium alginate which really just keeps the wound moist.
Anyway, if it's bleeding that badly, apply pressure and start heading home.
