John, before I got a boat lift I would clean the bottom in dive gear all the time. You can do the running gear by holding your breath, but it won't be easy to do a good job, and it is almost impossible to do the whole boat without equipment. Even with gear it's almost impossible unless you can stand on the bottom. I do live in Florida though, water hardly gets below 58'(67' now). It's worth getting certified for and you can also change out zinc's and sport dive/spear fish to boot, come on down to Tampa/Bradenton and I'll take ya.
